Hemp Paste™: Full Spectrum, Hemp Bud, Cannabinoid Product: CBD, CBDa, Terpenes

I have tried many very high quality CBD (cannabidiol) extracts (organic cold pressed and CO2 extract products (some of my favorites include Apex CBD, SOL CBD, Endoca CBD, and Pet Releaf for my pup) which I love and appreciate. I have been including some hemp seeds and hemp oil in my diet for many years. I have never smoked Cannabis as it does to align with my spiritual practice or beliefs about nutrition. (Cannabis Sativa) is a powerful plant and can and has been used throughout history for food, medicine, fiber (clothing and paper) and construction.

Cannabis Sativa in the form of Industrial Hemp is non psychoactive (< 0.3 % THC, tetrahydrocannabinol) and under the recent farm bill signed December 2018 is legal as a whole food in the United States although there are still some laws that may restrict the use and sale of CBD in the form of dietary supplements.

CBD extract transformed and saved my dog Shiva’s life. He was experiencing extreme joint pain and was struggling to walk for more than a year.  We tried acupuncture, chiropractic, and diet with a little success.  Within 3 days of using CBD extract Shiva was not only able to run up and down stairs but was also able to jump on the couch again. In that experience I was shown first hand on the power of CBD.

Before we dig in deeper a note that Hemp Paste is a tool in your belt alongside an organic whole foods plant based lifestyle with excellent hydration, daily celery juice, plenty of greens and fresh fruits, and small quantity of high quality fats and oils, alongside exercise like rebounding, walking and cycling, and meditation.

What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a group of compounds most often associated with Cannabis Sativa which contains the richest source of Cannabinoids, we can also find Cannabinoids in plants like Echinacea, Kava Kava, Cacao, Hops, Black Pepper, and Truffles.

“Cannabinoids are a group of diverse chemical compounds that act on the cannabinoid receptor cells within our bodies. They are broken down into two main categories, endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids.

When it comes to the topic of endocannabinoids and phytocannabinoids, the two are very similar but they also have some striking differences, starting with their origins. Both types will interact the CB1 and CB2 receptors found in the nervous systems of all mammals, but endocannabinoids are naturally produced by the body and phytocannabinoids come from various parts of the cannabis plant.” REFERENCE

What is CBD – Cannabidiol?

“Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a naturally occurring chemical constituent of the cannabis plant genus. It is one of the major cannabinoids besides THC, CBG, CBN and CBC found in hemp and cannabis plants. In contrast to THC, CBD is a barely psychoactive cannabinoid and many medicinal properties are attributed to it. Both by researchers and users.

However, the largest proportion of CBD or cannabidiol occurs in the plants as an acid in the form of CBDa. In addition to the main cannabinoids, there are about 90 other secondary cannabinoids and terpenes found in cannabis plants. Since CBD and THC account for the largest part, these are also the cannabinoids that have been best researched so far.” REFERENCE

What are Terpenes?

The terpenes are the volatile organic compounds that give Cannabis Sativa the distinctive potent smell. If you CBD product lacks a rich smell it also lacks these powerful terpenes.

“Terpenes act on receptors and neurotransmitters; they are prone to combine with or dissolve in lipids or fats; they act as serotonin uptake inhibitors (similar to antidepressants like Prozac); they enhance norepinephrine activity (similar to tricyclic antidepressants like Elavil); they increase dopamine activity; and they augment GABA (the “downer” neurotransmitter that counters glutamate, the “upper”).” REFERENCE

CBD Hemp Cannabinoid Terpene Paste Back to the paste, recently a friend on facebook told me about Hemp Paste and I was intrigued. I am deeply into whole plant foods and I wondered if this would be more powerful than the CBD extract. The first time I opened the jar I was overcome by the powerful aroma. I took the paste I felt a deep rich calming experience that lasted.  The experience for me was one of is peace, calm and focused energy. I felt a significant physical relaxation (not a high) and a reduction in anxiety.  I shared this with a few of my friends and they were also very impressed with the results.

What is Hemp Paste?

Hemp Paste

Hemp Paste is made from the whole hemp plant, which includes high levels of beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes. In the interest of maintaining the medicinal integrity of the plant, the cannabinoids are decarboxylated (more on this later) by cooking at a low temperature in medically superior MCT oil. This process efficiently preserves and bonds fatty acids to the delicate cannabinoids. This allows easy passage through the blood brain barrier upon consumption. Hemp Paste contains the complete genetic code of the plant thus triggering a cascading entourage effect. The delicate cooking method preserves what nature gave us in the first place by utilizing the whole plant rather then over processing it.

How is Hemp Paste superior to CBD extracts?

There are six steps in extracting the oil from the hemp bud but each step is very damaging to the terpenes and the delicate 118 different types of cannabinoids.

Lab tests show that 99% of the terpenes are destroyed in the CBD oil extraction method. Recent research points to the “entourage effect”, which highlights the exponential power in the full spectrum of the plant. Isolating only CBD has NO “entourage effect”. The only way to get the “entourage effect” is to preserve the terpenes and all the delicate cannabinoids. The method by which Hemp Paste is made allows for the preservation of terpenes and cannabinoids.

What is the Entourage Effect?

The Entourage Effect studies the whole plant and how it can therapeutically react to the body on numerous levels. If you extract the CBD you are going to lose the majority of the synergistic Cannabinoids and Terpenes that create the magic of the whole plant effect.

Quote: “The term “entourage effect” has been used to describe the synergistic manner in which the more than 80 cannabinoids and 100+ terpenes work together to produce the healing magic that cannabis is so widely recognized for. Specifically, the entourage effect combines the ability of these various compounds that helps to neutralize and minimize the psychoactive effects of cannabis, which could possibly be too intense in reality to stand alone.” Reference

CBD paste has over 100 Terpenes and 118 Cannabinoids.

What is the endocannabinoid system?

“The endocannabinoid system is a network of internally occurring components that play an important role in our inner biological system.

It is responsible for regulating and balancing (homeostatis) the response of the human body to certain triggers. Such as appetite, metabolism, immune change, communication between body cells and lots more.” REFERENCE

Organic, Terpene, Cannabinoid, and Pesticide Reports

The hemp paste is of highest quality. The hemp used in the CBD paste is made from certified organic flowers grown in Colorado. However at this time the manufacturing facility is not certified organic so the product is not certified. It is tested for pesticide residue by the company and by the state of Colorado as they require all hemp to be grown without pesticides.

How is Hemp Paste made, What is Decarboxylation ?

Hemp Bud Hemp PasteThe Hemp buds are ground down, mixed with MCT Oil and Vegetable Glycerin and gently heated. This takes the natural 4-pronged cannabinoids and decarboxylates (63 % decarboxylated) them (breaks off the 4th prong) so they can cross the blood-brain barrier and attach to the receptors in the brain and nervous system.  This process keeps about 40-50% of the cannabinoids intact (4 pronged) so they have the anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative (bad cell growth) properties to them.

cannabinoids

Extracted (CO2) v Raw v Gently Heated Hemp Paste

When you extract the oils with CO2, Solvents or even a raw extract you are going to destroy some or all of the other delicate cannabinoids. The more extracted your product is the less of the entourage effect you will receive. Here is an explanation from the creator of Hemp Paste

“When looking at both of these compounds [CBD and CBDa] the difference between them is whether they can attach to the CB1 receptors in the brain and nervous system. The CBDa is a 4-pronged plug, while the receptors in the brain and nervous system are 3-pronged receptors. So we need to heat up the hemp to a certain point for a specific period of time so we can break off that 4th prong. This process is called decarboxylation. Breaking off that 4th prong leaves you CBD. This is the compound that has direct effect on the brain and nervous system. Keep in mind that this process is true for all known 118 plus cannabinoids.

So what about the CBDa? The significant benefit behind the CBDa is the fact that THIS (along with all other cannabinoids) compound has the anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative (bad cell growth) properties to them. The reason that one (CBDa) enhances the effect of the other (CBD) is because of the entourage effect. So all cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids work together in this manner.

If you take ANY PART of the whole plant away from the product, you no longer get the full entourage effect nor the full, raw product. The only way to get this is to put the WHOLE plant into the jar. Hence, Hemp Paste since it is the whole plant, the entire genetic code of the Hemp Plant is in the Hemp Paste!! Making it the best, most effect product on the market!”

I would like to note for clarity that Hemp Paste has both CBDa and CBD because the gentle decarboxylation leaves much of both the CBD as CBDa as we can seen  in the lab reports.

Will I pass a drug test?

The product is not THC FREE, however It is well below the legal limit of THC (0.3%). There is enough THC to maintain the entourage effect.  If the drug test is designed specifically to test for THC, then you will pass. A general drug test may fail for someone on high dosages of any CBD product therefore it is important to request a specific THC test.
